We found out that I am an easy subject to hypnotize during a lie detector class. The teacher, my PI boss, used me for a guinea pig quite easily. Add that to the 'playing' my best friend, Pai, and I did in the sixties and seventies, and we discovered a natural team. She would put me under, I would go talk to the 'others.'

Our band's recording tech moved to an apartment in Sunnyvale, only to be constantly bothered by something in their bedroom closet that would go bump in the night. Oh, yeah, we can come play! Into the closet we go, settling down, legs crossed, ciggies and drinks for the night. Giggling.

Pai puts me under. I am atuned to both worlds. He's here, really here, in the closet with us. A long haired blonde, surfer, our age. Whoa. He wants to know where his parents are. They used to live here. He went surfing one day, came back and they were gone. I know, for some reason, they moved after he drowned, because he drowned. I am trying to explain, he is not having any of it. This entire conversation is rapidly becoming pointless. He makes a decision, if I come flying with him (his words), he will leave. Flying? Are you kidding? He laughs, its easy. I try. Nope, not going to happen, kid. I keep running into the closet walls. Try again. Again. I just cannot make myself leave this earth, no matter how I try. (Years later, I learn about astral projection.) He sighs, and simply goes away. Pai wakes me up as she has listened to the entire conversation, my side, the whole time, so she knows what has transpired. We tell Ray we did what we could and head home for the usual snack of a half a cantelope filled with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. She adds sardines, I add Hostess cupcakes. Teenagers have steel stomachs.

The next morning, I am thinking that was really weird, did we dream it all? After a mental drug check (I still use the expression, "I must have been on drugs" to his day), I hop out of bed to call Pai for confirmation all that really happened. Wow, wait, look in the mirror. Bruises, small, medium and a few rather large ones cover my arms, shoulders, knees and legs. Wow.

Ray happily reported that night was the first silent night since the day they moved in.
